Century Casino

Official identity verification requirements and procedures for Century Casino patrons in Canada.

Century Casino Identity Verification Policy

  1. Introduction

This document sets out the identity verification requirements and procedures applicable to patrons of Century Casino properties operated by Century Casinos, Inc. in Canada. Identity verification is a mandatory regulatory obligation under Canadian federal and provincial law and forms part of the anti-money laundering (AML) and know-your-customer (KYC) compliance framework. Compliance with these requirements is a condition of access to casino and racetrack facilities.

  1. Legal and Regulatory Basis

2.1. Federal Requirements

Century Casino operates in accordance with the Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act (PCMLTFA) and associated regulations enforced by the Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRAC). Under FINTRAC guidance for casinos, the company is required to verify the identity of clients in specific circumstances, including but not limited to large cash transactions, virtual currency transactions, suspicious transactions, casino disbursements, extensions of credit, receipt of funds, and electronic funds transfers at or above prescribed thresholds.

2.2. Provincial Licensing

Canadian casino and racetrack properties operated under the Century Casino brand are licensed and regulated by the relevant provincial gaming authorities. All applicable provincial identity verification and record-keeping requirements are observed in connection with these operations.

  1. When Identity Verification Is Required

Identity verification is required in the following situations:

  • Large cash transactions: When a patron conducts a cash transaction of CAD 10,000 or more in a single transaction, or multiple transactions totaling CAD 10,000 or more within 24 consecutive hours.
  • Large virtual currency transactions: When a patron conducts a transaction involving virtual currency equivalent to CAD 10,000 or more.
  • Suspicious transactions: When there are reasonable grounds to suspect that a transaction is related to a money laundering or terrorist financing offence, regardless of the amount.
  • Casino disbursements: When CAD 10,000 or more is disbursed to a patron.
  • Extension of credit: When credit of CAD 3,000 or more is extended to a patron.
  • Receipt of funds: When CAD 3,000 or more is received from a patron for the issuance of chips, tokens, or plaques, or for the repayment of credit.
  • Foreign currency exchange: When CAD 3,000 or more in foreign currency is exchanged.
  • Electronic funds transfers: When an international electronic funds transfer of CAD 1,000 or more is initiated on a patron’s instructions, or when the casino is the final recipient of an international electronic funds transfer of CAD 1,000 or more.
  • Privacy and data requests: When a request is submitted to access, correct, or delete personal information held by the company, identity may be verified to protect the privacy and security of that data.
  1. Acceptable Forms of Identification

4.1. Government-Issued Photo Identification

The following forms of government-issued photo identification are accepted for verification purposes:

  • Valid passport issued by any country
  • Canadian provincial or territorial driver’s licence
  • Canadian provincial or territorial identification card
  • Permanent resident card issued by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada
  • Citizenship card issued by the Government of Canada

4.2. Additional Documentation

In certain circumstances, additional documentation may be requested to verify address, occupation, or principal business. Acceptable documents include utility bills, bank statements, or other official correspondence bearing the patron’s name and current address.

  1. Verification Procedures

5.1. In-Person Verification

When identification is presented in person at a casino or racetrack property, staff will examine the original document to confirm that:

  • The document appears genuine and has not been altered.
  • The photograph matches the patron’s appearance.
  • The name, date of birth, and other details are legible and consistent.
  • The document is current and has not expired.

The following details will be recorded: type of document, issuing jurisdiction, document number, and expiry date. Copies of identification are not retained unless required by law or regulation.

5.2. Verification for Remote Requests

When a privacy-related request or other inquiry is submitted remotely (for example, by email or telephone), identity may be verified by requesting information that matches records already held, or by requesting additional information. In some cases, a telephone call may be placed to a number on file to confirm identity before the request is processed.

5.3. Exceptions to Re-Verification

If identity has previously been verified in accordance with prescribed methods and a record of that verification has been retained, re-verification is not required for subsequent transactions, provided there are no doubts about the accuracy or completeness of the information on file. Client identification information is subject to ongoing monitoring requirements, and patrons may be asked periodically to confirm or update their name, address, occupation, or principal business.

  1. Record Retention

Records of identity verification, including copies of identification documents (where permitted or required), transaction records, and verification logs, are retained in accordance with FINTRAC record-keeping requirements and applicable internal data retention policies. These records are stored securely and are accessible only to authorized personnel and regulatory authorities as required by law.

  1. Refusal of Service

If a patron declines to provide identification when required, or if identity cannot be verified to the standard required by law, the company reserves the right to refuse the transaction or service in question. This may include declining to process a cash transaction, refusing to extend credit, or denying access to certain facilities or services.

  1. Privacy and Data Protection

Personal information collected during the identity verification process is handled in accordance with the applicable Privacy Policy and Canadian privacy legislation. Information obtained for identity verification is used solely for regulatory compliance, fraud prevention, and the protection of operations. Identification information is not shared with third parties except as required by law or with the explicit consent of the individual concerned.
